DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY

HISTORY OF THE DEPARTMENT

Established in the academic year 2003-2004, the Department of Psychology at Ethiraj college (SELF-FUNDED) offers its students an unique opportunity to gain an in depth insight into the various fields of psychology like-basic psychology, biological psychology, applied social psychology, developmental psychology, statistics and experimental psychology.Inputs on psychopathology and counselling skills not only provide them a strong base in the diagnosis and management of abnormal behavior but also helps then acquire valuable skills, which are needed to work in clinical settings. In keeping with the growing and continuous need to equip students with practical skills relevant in organizational and industrial settings care has been taken to include information on areas like organizational behavior, human resource development, marketing and consumer behavior and psychology of advertising. The inclusion of the case study approach and the survey method in a variety of areas aims to inculcate not only an effective research orientation, or the ability to make an exhaustive study of a selected population but also the ability to generalize ones skills in different work areas.
