Eligibility Criteria:
Candidates for admission to the first year of the Degree of Bachelor of Science in Chemistry course shall be required to have passed the Higher Secondary Examinations conducted by the Government of Tamilnadu or an examination accepted as equivalent thereto by the Syndicate of the University of Madras with Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics as subjects.
PG – M. Sc. Chemistry
Candidates for admission to the first year of the Degree of Master of Science in Chemistry course shall be required to have passed the B. Sc. Degree examination with Chemistry as the major subject of study of this university or an equivalent examination of some other University accepted by the syndicate of the University of Madras. The candidate should have taken Mathematics and Physics as the allied subjects in their undergraduate course.
M.Phil / Ph.D. Chemistry
Candidates for admission to the Degree of Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) / Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Chemistry course should have passed two year M.Sc. Degree course in Chemistry after three year B. Sc. Degree course in Chemistry and Higher Secondary of twelve years duration. The minimum eligibility mark shall be as prescribed in the guidelines for admission to the M.Phil / Ph.D. degree in chemistry by the University of Madras.
Certificate course
Dyeing and Printing of Fabrics (Introduced from 2019 – 2020)
The immense scope of textile industry makes it one of the largest industry in the world. Fibres and the fabrics made from them have limitless use and new applications are constantly being found. The certificate course “ Dyeing and Printing of fabrics” provides theoretical knowledge about the basic Dyeing process involved and the different types of printing methods available for the fabrics. This course also includes practical work which enable the students to come up with entrepreneur and employability skills.

Achievements in Co-Curricular activities 2017-2018
- B.Sivaranjani of I B.Sc Chemistry (2017-18) secured II prize in the poem writing competition on the Founders day.
- The March past team of the Department of Chemistry was placed third and won the prestigious trophy in the Annual Sports meet of our College held on 23rdFebruary 2018.
- The final year Undergraduate and Post graduate students were on an
industrial tour to Munnar and Idukki and visited Kannan Devan Tea factory.
- Our department final year UG students participated in various intercollegiate competitions and bagged various prizes in chem Tunes
- D. Ishwarya , B. Kanimozhi, J. Pavithra, P. Priya Dharshinie, R. Saraswathi won second prize at Loyola college and
- B.Kanimozhi and M. Priyanka won second prize in Cook without Fire at D.G. Vaishnav College.

- Dhivya. G of II BSc Chemistry won 1st prize in the Essay writing competition in Gurushiksha conducted by the Gurunanak College and received a cash prize of RS. 10000
- Dhivya. G of II BSc Chemistry won second prize in the essay writing competition conducted in the Kaviyarasar Kannadhasan Vizha and received a cash prize of RS. 3000
- Sundaravalli . N of II BSc Chemistry won 2nd prize of Rs. 6000 in Poetry writing competition in the event “Guru Shiksha 2019” by Guru Nanak College.
- Yamini Krishna of III BSc Chemistry won the KKB Quiz conducted by Loyola College and also received a cash prize of RS. 400.
- Shalini Palani of III BSc Chemistry won the International Space Science competition conducted by the GO4GURU.
- D. Priya of II MSc Chemistry cleared the NPTEL course on Bioinorganic Chemistry with 96% ( gold – top 5%) conducted by IIT Kanpur
- D. Priya of II MSc Chemistry Cleared the NPTEL course on Infrared Spectroscopy for pollution monitoring with 77% (silver) conducted by the IISC Bangalore.
2020-2021
- In the intercollegiate events conducted at MCC, Ms. Livatha Mohan, Ms. Poojashri.G.P., Ms. Vishnupriya.M and Ms. Narmadha Devi.T of I B.Sc. Chemistry secured 3rd place in Chem-tunes.
- Ms. Livatha Mohan and Ms. Poojashri.G.P, of I B.Sc. Chemistry got the 2nd place in the surprise event at MCC.
- At DG Vaishnav college, Ms. Livatha Mohan and Ms. Poojashri.G.P. of 1st B.Sc. Chemistry secured the 2nd place in Potpourri event.
- In the intercollegiate events conducted at SDNB Vaishnav College, Ms. Livatha Mohan and Ms. Poojashri .G.P., of I B.Sc. Chemistry bagged the 2nd place in Chem Quiz.
- Ms. Livatha Mohan of I B.Sc. secured 1st place in Chem-collage and 2nd place in Chem-Jam at SDNB Vaishnav College, Chennai.
- At Stella Maris College, Ms. Poojashri.G.P. of I B.Sc. Chemistry secured 3rd place in JAM event.

- Ms. Kayalvizhi.N and Ms. Hemalatha.C of II B.Sc. Chemistry secured 3rd prize in quiz at SDNB Vaishnav College.
- In the quiz competition conducted by Anna Adharsh college for Women, Ms. Sundaravalli. N and Ms. Yogeshwari. M of III B.Sc. Chemistry secured 2nd place.
- Ms. Sundaravalli. N of III B.Sc. Chemistry got an AIR 282 in the Joint
Admission Entrance Test conducted by Indian Institute of science, Bangalore.
- The students of the department of Chemistry have also participated in Inter- departmental events in the college and won prizes.
- In the Face Art competition conducted by N & D department, Ms. Livatha Mohan and Ms. Poojashri.G.P. of I B.Sc. Chemistry have secured 1st place.
- In Elocution competition conducted in the view of Science day, Ms. Poojashri.G.P. of I B.Sc. Chemistry bagged the 3rd place.
- Ms. Sinduja.M of III B.Sc. Chemistry secured II place in poster presentation competition at NUMERA 2021.

The department is offering Chemistry as both major and Allied subjects at UG level since 1957 and grew into a post graduate department in 1989.

The department was upgraded to a research department in 2005 offering M.Phil programme and is now a fully-fledged research department offering Ph.D programme in Chemistry from 2012.
