The Department of Natural Sciences started in the in the year 1948 offering Pre University courses and took a transformation as a full-fledged Department in the year 1957. The Department of zoology offered B.Sc Zoology with Botany and Chemistry as ancillary subjects. In 1984, it got upgraded into a Post Graduate Department offering M.Sc Zoology Programme. In 1989, it blossomed into a Research Department with M.Phil and Ph.D Programmes. During the year 2004, to cater to the needs of the changing scenario in the field of Zoology and Applied Sciences, B.Sc Zoology was renamed as B.Sc., Advanced Zoology and Biotechnology Programme. The Department continues to flourish in all its Curricular and Extra Curricular activities and has reached a prestigious position with maximum number of Women Doctorates awarded.

Value Added Courses WILDLIFE CONSERVATION (2019-20) Offers competency in basic forest management principles and evaluation of forest stands for health, wildlife habitat and lumber use. BIOINFORMATICS (2021-22, 2022-23) The students gain knowledge in the field of Chemi-informatics and pharmacokinetics and to effectively extract information from large databases. IMMUNOTECHNIQUES (2022-23) The students were upgraded with skills to work in the field of biopharmaceuticals.
