FILM FESTIVAL
The Department of Journalism and Communication was a part of the 7th Chennai International Documentary and Short film Festival 2019. This event was conducted on 9th February in the Mini Auditorium. This was a joint venture with R.P.Amudhan’s Maruppakam. Four documentary films which were screened during the event are ‘The Tribal Scoop’ directed by Mr. Beeswaranjan Pradhan, ‘There is no Moon’ directed by Mr. Ajay T.G., ‘Tin Satyi’ by Ms. Debalina and ‘Those Stars in the Sky’ by Mr. Debaranjan. Mr. T.G Ajay, human rights activist and a documentary filmmaker from Chattisgarh shared his experience on his film ‘There is no Moon’ with the students.
VINTAGE CAMERA EXHIBITION
Anchor Mr. C. Gopinath opened the vintage camera exhibition displayed at the Library Reading Hall for the public view on 4th February 2019.

Mrs. R. Umamaheswari received the Best Paper award for her Oral presentation in the International Conference on Green Chemistry for a Greener planet.
ABOUT US
The Department of Journalism and Communication was incepted in the year 2014. The department aims to give rise to new ideas and provides a forum for the creativity of the future journalists.
The Department offers a PG course in M.A. Journalism and Communication to keep pace with the evolving trends in Journalism and Communication as a coveted discipline at post graduate level. The course would facilitate students to explore the various avenues of research in the vast field of communication and empower them to fit into jobs available in media.
The core subjects include Print Journalism, Photo Journalism, Television Journalism Radio Journalism, Environmental Journalism, Communication Research Methods, Public Relations, Film studies and Projects. In addition to this, students will do two Internships in Print media and Electronic media.
Department organises various workshops, seminars, presentations and field trips to various media houses on a regular basis to educate and inspire the students to bring forth their innovations. Furthermore, students are encouraged to be a part of the media clubs and various other events conducted by the department and the college.
Students are given opportunities to explore the world of media by being a part of internship programmes offered by News networks, Television channels, publishing hubs and radio stations where depending upon the student’s interest, they are offered different career choices.
Apart from this, students are hired to work as journalists by the placement sector where reputed companies like Sun Network, WE magazine, ETV, The Hindu etc hunt for new faces.

Filmmaker Mr. A.M. Aravindan conducted a workshop on filmmaking and film analysis techniques. He elaborated on elements of film, difficulties in working at the location.

Mr. L. Balaji Saravanan, Editor Cauvery News conducted a workshop on editing nuances and technicalities in documentary filmmaking.

Ms. Vani Subramanian, a women’s rights activist and a documentary filmmaker from New Delhi addressed our students.
INTERACTIVE SESSIONS

Mr. C.S. Amudhan, director of the movie “TamizhPadam” and RJ Shiva, the lead actor of the same movie shared their experiences with our students and other college media students.

ASSOCIATION – DRISHYA
The biggest event of the year, our annual association ‘Drishya’ an intercollegiate fest was organized on the 4th of February 2019. It was inaugurated by ‘Neeya Naana’ fame anchor and journalist Mr. C. Gopinath. The audiences were mesmerized by his motivational speech. Following which an interactive session with debut directors, ‘Pyaar Prema Kadhal’ Mr. Elan, ‘Kanaa’ Mr. Arunraja Kamaraj, ‘Irumbu Thirai’ Mr. P.S. Mithran and ‘Kolamaavu Kokila’ Mr. Nelson was organised. The Association also witnessed celebrity walk-ins such as Music Composer and Actor Mr. G.V. Prakash, Mr. Saran and Ms. Aayira the lead actors of tamil movie ‘Sagaa’ and Actor Mr. Sanath Reddy. The valedictory Chief Guest VJ Surya distributed prizes and certificates for winners.
