ABOUT US

Department Profile

The Post Graduate Department of Physics was started in the year 2004 with the student strength of sixteen. The department was upgraded to a full-fledged research department with the introduction of the M.Phil. program in the year 2009 and the Ph.D. program in the year 2018.

With a focus on encouraging research, the department has established well equipped labs with sophisticated instruments and scientific software for experimental and theoretical research activities in multiple areas of Physics.

Postgraduate students are motivated to take up internship programs in reputed institutes such as the IITs, IGCAR, IISc, etc. They are also encouraged to participate and present their project work in various scientific forums such as conferences and seminars to inculcate a thirst for research.

The project in the last semester provides the necessary acumen to pursue a career in research.  Keeping in mind the current research area instruments like LCR Bridge, Thermostat, FTIR, UV –Visible and Fluorescence spectrometers are available in the Instrumentation Centre. Besides the Department has software’s like GOLD for molecular docking studies, WEIN 2K for band structure calculation and MATCH for phase identification from powder diffraction.  Equipments such as high temperature muffle furnace (1400º C) and Ultrasonic cleaner are also available.

Vision &Mission:

The vision of the Physics Department is to become the “Department of Choice” for students, and parents.

The mission of the department is to achieve excellence in teaching and learning through innovative methods. The department is dedicated to the delivery of high quality education and grooming the personality to produce graduates with professional and personal competence.
