ABOUT US

Earth’s flora, though plentiful, is mysterious in every aspect. The department of Botany as it was named in 1948 at its inception as an allied subject and further elevated as a Major department in the year 1964 and witnessed its Golden Jubilee in the year 2014-2015. It has done a remarkable service to society by turning out eco-conscious graduates during the last 5 decades. The department which offered the subject as a major subject has been renamed as Plant Biology and Plant Biotechnology in the year 2000, bearing in mind the changing mind set of the society at large. The new name not only has lent it an extra charm but has made it more accessible.

The course provides a strong foundation with basic Botany and is well integrated with the current trends and advanced technologies which equip students with job-oriented skills required by the industry. The department was upgraded as research department introducing M.Phil programme during the year 2007-2008 and Ph.D in the year 2012-2013. The department has to its credit 30 M.Phil research scholars and 5 Ph.D candidates from the date of inception.
