The Department of Bank Management has also lent hands to YRG Foundation for “Endrum Punnagai”, a programme for boys and girls of disadvantaged families to help build their confidence to have a positive and health relationship with each other.

On 11th October, 2015, EP Forum 2015, a talent forum for the volunteers of Endrum Punnagai was organised at Nila Party Hall, Chennai. It gave them the feeling of solidarity. It served as a platform for the volunteers to learn more about Endrum Punnagai activities through exploration and fun.

Case Study Competition

The Department of Bank Management, International Skill Development
Corporation (ISDC) and Chartered Institute of Management Accountants
(CIMA) jointly organised a case study competition on the 6
th of March 2018.
Teams from 25 colleges in and around Chennai participated in the event that
was held at the Ethiraj College campus.The objective of the competition was
to prepare and empower the students to face the challenges of the competitive
corporate world they would enter after their graduation. The competition was
judged by Mr. M. Sathya Kumar, Founder & CEO, Tycoon+, Mr. M.
Abhishek, Partner, Victor Grace & Co. and Mr. K. RaviShankar, Faculty
CIMA. Mr. M. Sathya Kumar while lauding efforts of the organisers
suggested that more of such competitions have to be conducted in all the colleges all over TamilNadu on diverse theme such as entrepreneurship and empowerment. Mr. M. Abhishek urged the students to make utmost use of opportunities like these to hone their skills. Mr. K. Ravi Shankar appreciated the zeal and enthusiasm of the participants and the critical thinking exhibited in their presentations. The team from MOP Vaishnav College for Women (Autonomous) won the First Prize, the second prize was bagged by the team from Ethiraj College for Women (Autonomous) and the third prize was awarded to the team from Bhaktavatsalam Memorial College for Women, Chennai

Extension Activities

2014 15

As a part of the outreach programme, the students staged a street play on the topic “Zero Discrimination with people living with HIV” on the 6th December 2014 in the college premises. They also staged a street play during “26th Road safety week” celebration in Regional Transport Office, Perambur.

2015- 2016

The Department of Bank Management in Collaboration with Bharat Electronics Ltd (Aadhar Government contractors) organized Special Aadhar camp for Students and Staff (Teaching and Non Teaching) on 10-02-2016, 11-02-2016 and 12-02-2016. There was overwhelming response from the students and staff, over 700 registered for the card.

2016-2017

The Department has initiated an Assistance Programme under the aegis of Pradhan Mantri MUDRA Yojana (PMMY) to succour the small manufacturing units, service sector units, shopkeepers, fruits/vegetable vendors, repair shops and others in rural and urban areas in getting collateral free loans from Banks.

2017-2018

The department in association with YRG Care, United Way of Chennai, Iniya Udaiyam organized street play performance on the subject “Education Brings Light and Hope” for 26 school children on August 5th 2017.

Inter College Business Plan Competition

The department of bank management organized an Inter College Business Plan Competition in association with the Entrepreneurship Vertical, Yi Chennai. Around 29 participants from around 6 other colleges along with 3

teams from Ethiraj presented their business proposal. 14 business plans were presented. Three jurists from different

industry background evaluated the business plans. The selected plans will be moving onto the next level of

mentoring and support from Yi. The event took place on 19th December 2019. Students got an opportunity to

present their ideas. The students got an opportunity to learn how to create a business proposal and market the same.

Business Plan Competition conducted by IBCN International Conference 2017, held in Dubai March 2017. 2017 -18

Ms. Sarikha Murthi & Ms.Nivedita Sundararajan undertook one month paid Internship with Deloitte, US June 2017.

Manasa T.M of second year has been working on a project “Enhancing the success and profitability of micro and marginal women entrepreneurs” with the Department of Management Studies IIT Madras as a Project Coordinator under the guidance of Prof. Thillai Rajan and Prof. Arun Kumar since October 2017.

Manasa T.M , Aiswarya Lakshmi.P, and Swetha.A of second year participated and won at the Arena and colosseum levels of Graduate School Marevick conducted by Delloitte India and were in the top 4th position of Chennai zone.

Nivedita Venkataramanan of second year took part in a National Level Case Study Competition conducted by Delloitte and won 5th place.

Niveditha Sundararajan, Divya P and Sarika Moorthi of Third year took part in a National Level Case Study Competition conducted by Delloitte and won 2nd place and received Cash prize of Rs.75000/- for the same in 2017.

M.Agalya Second year won the individual championship trophy, organized by Manggal Ave Event Management Service Private Ltd. In association with just swimming academy and AOA/ Association of Organic and Ayurveda for winning in swim for nature one day swimming competition on Sunday 3rd September 2017 at Aquatic Complex, Velachery.

The Department has conducted Food Mela Event in Ethiraj College.

The Department has organized 2 extension activities – Dental & Eye check up at Nemilicherry Village, Street play on social awareness in Government schools – Sholinganallur.

 

SEMINAR AND WORKSHOPS

SEMINARs/WORKSHOPs/SYMPOSIUM 2014-2015

The Department of Bank Management organized a one day National Workshop on “CONFIDENCE TO COMMUNICATE” on 2 September 2014. Students from different Colleges, M.O.P Vaishnav College for Women, Stella Maris College for Women, Women’s Christian College, D.R.B.C.C.C. Hindu College, RKM Vivekanandha College and St. Britto’s College participated in the workshop. It was aimed at how to communicate and increase the level of confidence among the students. The speakers were Ms.Sudha Rajesh, Trainer, Ex- Governor, Toast Master International, Chennai, Dr.S.Jeyachandran Vice President, Marutham. Group, Chennai, Dr.V.Rajendran, Hitech Concrete solution Pvt.Ltd, Port Blair, Andaman &Nicobar Island. Three sessions were held on “Confidence to Communicate”, “Learn by doing” and “Capacity Building”. The Participants understood the ways to communicate and to improve their level of confidence.

National Workshop

A one day “Faculty Development Programme” (State Level) was organized on 24 January 2015 by the department of Bank Management along with Teaching Learning Centre IIT Madras. Dr. Edamana Prasad, Head, Teaching Learning Centre IIT Madras was the Resource person. The Faculty Members from Chennai city colleges – Annai Vellankani College, Anna Aadarsh College for Women, Nandhanam Arts College, Ramakrishna Mission Vivekanandha College, Soka Ikeda College for Women, St. Britto’s College and Women Christian College attended the workshop. The workshop enabled the participants to know on how to write the learning outcomes of their course and also introduced various assessment techniques.

As a part of empowering and elevating the quotient of Women Entrepreneurs in the society, the Department of Bank Management initiated the ED-Bazaar in the year 2006. This year, the Department organized the bazaar at the Inter- Collegiate level- “Unlock Your Entrepreneurial Skills” on the 16th February, 2015. The Bazaar was inaugurated by Mr. Ashwin Isaac and Mrs Shiny Ashwin, AACHI MASALA, Pvt. Ltd. The Bazaar endeavors at sharpening & polishing the minds of young and potential entrepreneurs. This year, the Bazaar was open to differently-abled participants who also showcased their talents. The bazaar carried around 162 stalls with a participation of up to 800 students.

  1. The Department also organised a One Day interactive International workshop on “Entrepreneurship in Life Sciences” on 8th September, 2015. The workshop was hosted by Prof. Eric Claassen from VU University, Amsterdam. He is the first Biopartner Professor in “Entrepreneurship in the Life Sciences” appointed by the Ministry of Economic Affairs at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam.

  2. The Department conducted three day workshop from 23rd to 27th June, 2015 for the second year students on the topic “VISIONING LIFE”. Mr. R. Aravindhan, Cheif Faculty, Vendanta Institute Madras, was the resource person, who focused on the Value Based Education for the students.

Three day workshop – Visioning Life

An interactive session on “Financial Education for Youth” was hosted by the Department, a Standard Chartered community programme aimed at strengthening personal financial capability among graduate students of the country and covered topics that include borrowing, budgeting, expenditure, income, making financial choices, money basics, products and services, risk/safety/security, saving and investment and starting a business. Andy Halford, Chief Financial Officer along with his Senior Management team connected with students on various aspects of managing finance, making financially responsible decisions and improving the knowledge, behaviour and attitude towards personal finance.

Leadership Enrichment Action Programme (LEAP) was organised for the Post Graduate students of the department to augment Management Skills through games on 10th Feb 2017.

The Department of Bank Management structured two days programme on the topic “Effects and Impact of Demonetisation”. Street play was staged to create awareness on demonetisation and charts on same were displayed throughout the Campus. In connection with the above, a Panel Discussion was also organised. Students of the Department participated in discussion; the moderator Mr. Sathya Kumar, Chartered Accountant by profession, Advisor, Debater, Academician, Social Activist and a Mentor to students by passion deliberated on the immediate and long term benefits of demonetisation.

A seminar on “Markatus – Disrupting the Status Quo” was organised along with the Departments of Commerce – Aided, Self-Supporting, Honors and Rajalakshmi School of Business, Chennai. Mr.Sridhar Lakshmanan, CEO & Founder, ecoLogin, Chennai delivered the inaugural address. Dr.Subhasis Ray, Prof.P.V.Hari Haran and Dr.Subhendu Dey handled the sessions on CSR Marketing, Rural Marketing and Challenges of Modern Day Marketing respectively. Creativity competition on Green Marketing was also conducted for students.
