Eligibility Criteria: The Undergraduate degree in Psychology is a full time 3 year program comprising of 6 semesters. For admission into this course the candidate must have passed in the XII Grade Board exam of any stream. Students from Vocational stream are not eligible to apply. Preference will be given to science students with Biology. In case of application from a different board of education other than the Tamil Nadu State Board, then an eligibility certificate from the University of Madras will be required.

Eligibility Criteria: The Postgraduate degree in Applied Psychology is a full time 2year program comprising of 4 semesters. Candidates for admission to the first year of the M.Sc Applied Psychology degree course shall be required to have passed B.Sc Examination conducted by the University of Madras or an examination accepted as equivalent there to by the syndicate of the University of Madras with Psychology as a major subject or one of the 2 or 3 major subjects.
VALUE ADDED COURSES: The first three courses listed below are uniquely designed to enhance vocational preparation and career prospects in psychology for students with psychologymajorin. The course on gender and sexuality is open to students from other disciplines.

Best practices:
- The department of psychology conducts a dyslexia course in collaboration with KIDS Learning Centre, which certifies students and enhances their employability in the field of special education. Six batches of students have completed and few are also employed
- Students of the department are encouraged to present research papers.
- Feedback is taken from students to enrich the teaching learning process.
- The Department encourages peer learning and peer counselling.
- The department resorts to innovative teaching methodologies such as showing moviesfeaturing mental health issues followed by discussions, activities such as role plays, role rehearsals, gratitude journaling, proposal presentations, chart presentations, worksheets discussions etc.

ABOUT US
1. Department Profile
- Established in 2003, the Department of Psychology began its journey with an undergraduate program, admitting an initial batch of 30 students. In response to growing interest and demand, the intake was expanded to 50 in the year 2011 and an additional section with the sanctioned strength of 50 was introduced in the academic year 2003–2004.The department further broadened its academic horizon by launching the M.Sc. in Applied Psychology Programme in the academic year 2020–2021.
- Supported by a dedicated team of permanent, highly qualified faculty members, the department offers well-designed undergraduate and postgraduate programs that align with the dynamic and diverse nature of the field of psychology that prepares students to crack competitive examinations and placements. The M.ScProgramme in Applied Psychology features a broad range of specialization courses, including forensic psychology, neuropsychology, positive psychology, abnormal psychology, organizational behavior, with a core focus on counselling psychology.
- Innovative pedagogical approaches form the backbone of the department’s teaching philosophy. These include book and film reviews, role plays, group discussions, case studies, journal presentations, collaborative projects, and simulated counselling sessions. Enriching the academic environment further, periodic guest lectures by experts in various domains are organized.
- To enhance student employability and practical knowledge, the department has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with KIDS Learning Center, Chennai, offering a specialized course in dyslexia. Another MoU with Capt. M. Singaraja facilitates research in the field of gerontology. In addition to the dyslexia course, the department offers three other value-added programs focusing on peer counselling, psychological first aid, and gender and sexuality aiding in vocational preparation
- The Department has successfully organized state, national and International seminars, workshopsand conferences. Faculty and students actively engage in presenting and publishing research papers, with students winning accolades such as the Best Paper Award at various national and international conferences and the prestigious Young Psychologist Competition held at Christ University, Bangalore
- Faculty members also serve as resource persons for workshops and training programs, chair scientific paper presentation sessions at national and international conferences, and contribute their expertise on academic bodies such as Boards of Studies, Academic Audit Committees, and recruitment panels.
- Our annual event, PSYNERGY, the department’s signature initiative for out-of-classroom learning is theme-based featuring expert talks, workshops, and student-led intercollegiate events. Esteemed experts from diverse fields are invited to share their knowledge, thereby broadening students’ academic and professional perspectives.
- To cultivate practical skills and real-world exposure, internships are made mandatory for both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Students of our department take up internships at Institutes of repute. The department is deeply involved in community outreach to spread mental health awareness and foster social responsibility. Psychological training programmes are carried out for diverse populations.
- We encourage students to participate actively in academic projects and competitions, peer counselling, peer learning , Co-curricular and extracurricular activities, all aimed at fostering the holistic development of each student
