IQAC EVENTS 2020-2021

The Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC)has been playing an active role in assisting the College to explore new paths to excellence. IQAC offers constructive recommendations and lays down benchmarks for the continuous quality improvement of the College. The following are the highlights of the activities of the IQAC during the academic year 2020-2021.

Orientation Programme

The IQAC, in collaboration with the Department of Microbiology,organized a week-long Orientation Programme in August 2020 for the first-year students. The online Orientation gave the students the closest experience to an onsite one.

Data Documentation and Reports:

Self-Study Report and AQAR

IQAC continued with the collection and compilation of data as mandated by NAAC for the IV cycle of accreditation of the college. The details vis-à-vis the curricular, co-curricular and extension activities of the college were compiled to submitthe  AQAR to NAAC.

In November 2020, IQAC collated the data as sought by the MHRD, Government of India, and applied for the National Ranking, through the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF 2021). 

The data for academic years 2020-21of the college was consolidated and was submitted to The Week Magazine Hansa Researchfor identifying the Best Colleges in India.

Surveys Conducted

The IQAC conducted a Students’ Satisfaction Survey to identify the satisfaction level among the students on the aspects of teaching-learning and infrastructural facilities.Department wise reports were shared for the departments to take action. A Students’ Survey was organized to understand the student’s access to technology and their perception of online learning. Reports were submitted to the Principal and Management. Actions were taken on the basis of suggestions put forth.

Faculty Development Programme

During the pandemic, to ensure continuity in teaching & learning, it was necessary to equip  for a sudden shift from onsite teaching to online pedagogy.As a proactive step, the  IQAC organised  FDPs and training sessions  for the  faculty  to adapt to the new normal  and  find the best resources and medium to reach the students. A workshop on Online Teaching: An Introduction to LMS was organised on 30th June 2020 for the faculty members of the College. The workshop was handled by Dr.M.Latha Kumari, IQAC Coordinator and Associate Professor, Department of English to familiarise  the faculty with learning management system and open educational resources. The IQAC organised a Five-day Faculty Development Programme on Recasting from Onsite to Online Pedagogy from 20th July 2020 to 24th July 2020. Ms.Aruna Devi K, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, Member IQAC, Kristu Jayanti College, Bengaluru trained the faculty on effective e-Content development tools. More than 200 Faculty were trained  to create e-contents, make and edit videos for their YouTube channel and create websites.

One-day workshop on ICT and Simulation tools for Effective Online Engagement was organised on 23rd July 2020. Dr.T.Augustine Arul Prasad, Assistant Professor, Department of Chemistry and IQAC Coordinator, DG Vaishnav College, Chennai, the resource person, familiarised the faculty members with a wide range of online platforms and ICT tools.

Two days Training of Teachers (ToT) on Learning Management System was organised on 24th and 25th July 2020. Mr.KumarJaganmayaJagajeet of Web Era Technology, Bhubaneshwar gave hands-on training for the faculty on Moodle.

External Peer Committee Meeting

The External Peer Committee Meeting was organised online on 11th September 2020 with Dr. R.R. Krishnamurthy, Dean of Academics, Professor & Head, Department of Applied Geology, University of Madras (Guindy Campus); Dr. Bharati Harishankar, Director – IQAC, Professor & Head, Department of Women’s Studies, University of Madras and Mr.G.R.Hari, Chief Executive Partner, Manohar Chowdhry& Associates as the External Committee Members. Mrs.Chandra Devi Thanikachalam, Chairperson, Ethiraj College Trust, Dr.S.Kothai, Principal & Secretary, Ethiraj College for Women, Dr.D.B.Usharani, Vice-Principal (Aided) and Dr.T.UshaPriya, Vice-Principal (SS) and Associate Professor & Head, Department of Bank Management, Ethiraj College for Women, Chennai, Deans , COE and IQAC members were present for the meeting.

Other Initiatives

Coursera for Campus, a new offering by Coursera, the global online learning platform was launched in the College on 12th August 2020. More than 1000 students used the platform to upskill themselves and catch up on emerging areas.
