The Department with a proud history has come a long way since its inception in the year 1994 with a sanctioned strength of 50 students and two staff members. The popularity of the course and its increasing demand led to the start of the second batch in 1996 with 70 students per batch. The Post Graduate course, M.Com (Banking and Insurance Management) was started during the academic year 2013-2014. Our college happens to be the first to introduce such a course under the University of Madras. The students have secured the coveted “University First Rank” for eight times in succession during the period 1998-2007.One-month bank internship for the final year undergraduates and internship in Banks and Insurance companies for post graduate students is one of the highlights of the curriculum. The vibrant and energetic students of the department have made successful careers in their chosen path, both in India and abroad.

A degree in B.Com Bank Management enables students to pursue professional courses like MBA, MCA, MCOM, CS, CWA, CA, CFA, CMA, CPA, etc. To empower students with knowledge, skills and new opportunities the department has signed MOU with ICICI Bank Limited, Kredent Info edge Pvt. Ltd, CII-YI (Young Indians) and Beta Monks Factory Pvt. Ltd.. The Department maintains its relevance by organising Conferences, Workshops and Seminars at International and National levels every year since 2013-2014 to ponder over contemporary issues and gain insights into the same. The most awaited annual event, ED Bazaar is endeavored to hone the entrepreneurial skills of the students and elevate the quotient of young women entrepreneurs in the society, since 2006. The department has produced in numerous entrepreneurs in diverse field such as Textiles, Cosmetics, Confectionaries, Education, Technology, Dance, Arts and many more. The Crystal anniversary of ED BAZAAR was commemorated on 26 March 2021 through virtual mode. Dedicated, resourceful, and goal- oriented faculty members with a strong commitment to academic achievement and research contribution run the department. They are LMS-equipped faculties with an average experience of 15-years. Through learner-centered teaching techniques like case studies, role playing, field trips and project work, the department imparts the curriculum. The department also offers co- curricular and value-added programmes in addition to the normal curriculum. For deserving students, remedial classes are set up. The department has won numerous awards with the assistance of the faculty and student body in various forums. Each faculty acts as a mentor for the students, providing counselling and guidance with a teacher-to-student ratio of one to twenty. The Department boasts accomplished alumni from a variety of fields who are a source of tremendous pride and inspiration for our Department and College. They frequently work together and are actively involved in our academic progress. The students in our programme are placed with renowned business organizations such as CSS CORP, E &Y, Philips, Natwest, TCS, Ramco System and CAMS.
